Eastern Shore: Exploring the Chesapeake Part II

Image
Tranquility brewed down Route 13 and that morning I was on my way to immerse myself into the thick of it. The journey along the 75-mile peninsula of the Eastern Shore in Virginia continued. Stepping outside into the bright sunlight of the Eastern Shore’s morning, I sipped a cup of coffee on the patio chairs outside my room at the Wachapreague Inn . The salt air helped shake the fog of sleep and the strong coffee provided by the inn got me kicking into a higher gear. After a shower, I was back on the road heading south for another glorious day in Virginia . Sunlight On Still Water First activity planned for the day was a kayak tour to a local winery. I met my kayak guide from SouthEast Expeditions at the landing on Nassawadox Creek.   She quickly got us set up with life jackets, paddles. Soon we were gliding across the water on a still summer’s morn. Nature has a way of calming the mind. Observing the diversity of the Eastern Shore’s ecology from a kayak is sublime. My...

Off to the (Wiener Dog) Races

Image
Vancouver’s Wiener Dog Race T here was a lot going on in Vancouver this weekend. A. Lot. Annual Kits days (also known as Khatsilano, a street festival with an insane number of bands, merchants, and sweet, delicious food trucks), the Van Doren Invitational – a pro bowlrider contest boasting a $75,000 prize purse, World Cup screenings all over town, and Folk Festival just to name a few. But there was one event that was the real draw. One spectacular spectacle that simply could NOT be missed – one might even say it ‘ begged ’ for attention: Vancouver’s Wiener Dog Race. Appropriately brought to you by Schenider’s. No Joke. This intense 100-foot dash features 8 heats over the course of two days – with the winner from each heading to the final on Sunday. The prize is an incredible $2,500. That’s a lot of kibble. It just so happened that good friends of ours, Kaz and Roxy, are the proud owners of a miniature dachshund named Abigail. And, serendipitously, they recently move...

Set Your Sights on California’s Patrick’s Point

Image
When most people picture northern California, they conjure up images of San Francisco’s pastel-painted houses, steep hills and massive bridges. While the magic of San Francisco is something everyone should experience at least once, northern California’s coastline holds more hidden treasures than you can imagine. Just a few hours north of San Francisco, in Humboldt County, lies an area that is much cooler and much greener—an area filled with foggy beaches, tall trees and rich history. Patrick’s Point State Park in Trinidad sits on a headland that rests above the Pacific. Even in the summertime, the Humboldt area is significantly cooler than most cities in the Golden State, but it’s worth bundling up and embracing the fog to explore such a diverse state park. Agate Beach You may as well start at the beach since that’s typically the draw of visiting California. But don’t expect the sun-in-your-eyes, hot sand beaches that line southern coastlines. Patrick Point’s Agate Beach is an exci...

Karma – The Sculpture Stretches to Infinity

Image
Karma, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. An impressive sculpture is located in the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, which is found at the New Orleans Museum of Art. It is made by Korean artist Do Ho Suh. A sculpture depicts a tower of blinded men rising into the sky. It is only 7 m (23 ft) high, but it gives an illusion that the sculpture stretches to infinity. It is due to the fact, that 98 stainless steel figures slightly decrease, therefore, gives a feeling that the tower is much longer than it actually is. Visiting Hogwarts, it’s a Dream come true

Image
Harry Potter has had such a big impact of me growing up. And even now I still watch the movies more than what you would consider normal or reread the books because i just love it so much. I remember going to these readings at the bookstore every time a new book came out and then right at midnight it was possible to buy the new book. I would start reading as soon as I would get home not caring how late it was already. I have read some good books after that but not a single series would ever made me be the first one to buy it nor will there ever be one. We have all been waiting for our letter to Hogwarts. We just wanted it to be real and for it all to become reality. And even after all movies have come out the story will never die. When I heard there was going to be a Harry Potter part in a theme park of course i couldn’t tame my excitement. I also knew, I would probably never get the chance to visit it. The first one was in Florida and that was just too far away. ...
