Honest Eurail Pass Review: Is It Worth It?

Image
If you’re looking for an honest Eurail pass review, this one’s for you my friends! One of the biggest questions that first-time visitors to Europe have is whether or not buying a rail pass is worth it. This was one of my big questions too during my first backpacking trip 5 years ago – after all, many of us grow up with this whole backpacking Europe by train thing ingrained in our heads as THE rite of passage for eager wanaderlusters…  But the more I dug into research, the more I realized the multitude of ways you can get around Europe… not necessarily with a rail pass. So, is the Eurail Pass worth it? Does it actually save you any money? After using a Eurail pass twice (once sponsored by ACP Rail and once paid on my own dime), I consider myself a bit of an obsessive Eurail expert. The very annoying and vague answer is it depends on your specific set of needs. So, in this post, I’ll be going over the many considerations you should make to deci...

Audiobooks Will Save Your Family Road Trip

Image
There is absolutely no question that audiobooks keep up sane in the car, whether we’re traveling across town or across the country. We all have our own tastes, but everyone in our family likes a good story. The trick to finding the best audiobooks for family road trips is to look for stories with a good plot and an awesome narrator. This is no easy feat. We’ve fallen in love with all kinds of stories that were turned into humdrum audiobooks by boring, monotone narrators. Definitely not a great scenario when you’re trying to keep your eyes open on a marathon of a road trip. A Note on Audible for Road Trips Since I first wrote this post, we have started using Audible for our road trip listening pleasure.  For a monthly fee, you can download your favorite audiobooks to listen to anywhere. What makes it so great for road trips is that you have a whole library with you and you can download your favorites before your trip. As with Netflix, I find th...

Martha Kelly’s Lilac Girls Book Review

Image
No matter, how many movies we see, how many books we read on Holocaust it is never enough. I have read articles, saw documentaries on World War 2, which was already depressing. Then one day while looking for books on Goodreads , I came across Lilac Girls, and the moment I read its summary I knew it might the one book which will be like an eye-opener on Holocaust. The real-life story is surrounded around two main characters and the other main character inspired by a survivor of the Holocaust is a must-read. So I’m going to present my honest Lilac Girls Book Review. Suggested Read – Donna Tart’s The Goldfinch Book Review. Martha Kelly’s Lilac Girls Book Review THE PLOT The story revolves around three main characters – *Caroline Ferriday* , *Herta Oberhauser* , and *Kasia Kuzmerick* . During & after World War 2, how the lives of these crosses path and changes direction for all is the crux of the story. Caroline coming from a wealthy background is ...

Destination Vermont: Merck Forest Cabin Camping

Image
It’s mud season in Vermont. Not a favorite time of year for most of us locals. The grass is still brown, the sky is grey, and outdoor pursuits are often curtailed by an incredible array of black muck that can easily capture hiking boots and vehicles and hold them ransom for days on end.  This winter, however, was one of the coldest and longest many people can remember, and the approach of mud season felt more like a cause for celebration than ever before. We decided to observe to occasion with a little trip to Merck Forest and Farmland Center in Rupert, Vermont. Our destination was Ridge Cabin, a secluded little getaway high on a ridge with beautiful winter views of both the sunrise and sunset. It’s certainly not too cold to camp in April, but we wanted the convenience of four walls and a woodstove to keep us toasty and dry out our clothes (all that mud). So, we packed up our gear that’s been sitting idle all winter and backpacked into the woods. 4 adu...
