NYT Travel Show: Post 7 (Tourists v. Travelers?)
The highlight of this year’s show was the speak I attended entitled “Travel Via the Eyes of the Travel Writer,” moderated by travel writer David Farley with fellow travel writers, Danielle Pergament, Adam Sachs and Tom Downey. Credits in between the four of the incorporate CondeNaste Traveler, Travel + Leisure, New York Times, Playboy, and quite a few other people.
As I assessment my pretty non-journalistic notes taken on my laptop in the course of the talk, I see that I need to have to discover to take superior notes. Anyways, here have been the highlight quotes:
Adam: “Looking lost and confused is a superior icebreaker people will take then take pity on you.”
Tom — what do you do to prepare before going someplace? “I definitely adore to study a lot of fiction about the location that I’m going. I especially like Idlewild Books here in New York exactly where they group the books by nation.”
Danyelle: “When you go someplace, don’t forget what you thought about that location before you got there since this is precisely what your readers will be considering.”
Final travel guidelines?
Adam: “Pack Pepto-Bismol tablets.”
Danyelle: “Avoid concierges.”
Tom: “Speak to immigrants that live in your city about their country before you go.”
Preferred Location?
Tom: “Cape Verde. Portuguese culture, outstanding beaches, and incredible music.”
Adam: “Tasmania. One particular of these areas that Australians feel of as the Australian Appalachia, but it definitely is very stunning. Sort of like a weird combination in between Scotland and Aruba.”
Danyelle: “The northern coast of Libya. Empty, so stunning, and awesome meals.”
David: “Belfast. Amazing spot and extremely friendly men and women. Intoxicating in more techniques than a single.”
The above clip is the panel discussing that age-old question: What does it mean to be a tourist versus a traveler? Their answers may perhaps surprise you.
