Aztec Postcard Travel Art

Postcard Travel Art

Encourage children to explore Aztec history. The Aztecs were a wandering tribe from northern Mexico and were one of the last great Native American civilizations. The Aztecs were very artistic people, with a love of pottery, poetry and sculpting. They often applied their art as tattoos to their warriors.

Invite your children to color in these abstract Aztec patterns and make them into postcards to send home during your journeys.

This travel art can be done in:

  • Cars
  • Planes
  • Trains
  • Hotel rooms

What you will need:

  • Printed Aztec Postcards activity sheet
  • A variety of colored pencils, felt tip markers or crayons
  • Safety scissors and a glue stick
  • A stiff card

Directions:

  1. Print out the Aztec Postcards activity sheet.
  2. Put all drawing materials in a plastic lidded box ready for transporting. Give your children a tray to work on.
  3. Invite your children to color in the Aztec pattern on the postcard or allow them to design their own.
  4. Send it to someone special with your best vacation news!
